NEW National Holidays

In November, some adult students invented some new national holidays.

We all know the ones that already exist, like Mother’s day, Cristmas day, and Indepenece day in the US.

But sutdents at P&L were asked to come up with (invent) some new holidays that don’t yet exist.

Here are some :

CHILDREN OF THE WORLD DAY (by Martine F)

A French poet sang "woman is the future of man." I like to think that children are the future of the world.

We can imagine a day celebrating them on August 9th (Saint Amour): Children of the World, All United!!

The children would be dressed in white t-shirts.

Neighborhood festivals would spring up in all four corners of the globe with drawing and painting workshops on the theme of the world of tomorrow.

Reading workshops on children's rights followed by discussions to raise awareness of these rights.

Workshops in theater, puppet making, choreography, and musical performance.

Writing a message filled with ideas and wishes to the leaders of each country.

A large picnic where everyone brings and shares.

Sending messages during a release of multicolored balloons and a closing song from one end of the planet to the other: IMAGINE

NO TECHNOLOGY DAY (by Nicky G)

Name of the day : The day without technology

Date of the  holiday : The first week end of spring

What the holiday celebrates: The return to manuel labour

This day should serve as a reminder of how to do things without the help of technology.

For example : no TV, no computer, no phone, no vacum cleaner, no microwave and so on.

It would be a special times for parents or grandparents to tell children how things used to be done without technology .

It would help people to appreciate how far progress has come and rediscover some of simpler ways of doing things.

And this last one is not a national holiday but an actual holiday (trip) for tourists! :

Discovery of the North Sentinel Island (by Annie L)

Date of holiday : 3 weeks en June 2026.

What the holiday celebrates : The taste of Adventure !

More details about the holiday :

This island, which is 59 square kilometers, belongs to India , in the Bay of Bengal in the Pacific Ocean.

Its population has been existing for millennia and is called "The Sentinels".

It's one of the last tribute of the planet which is completely cut off from the modern world.

It isn't easy to go to the island but our challenge is to be accepted by the locals by arriving by boat full of fruits, vegetables, clothes and a multitude of shiny things.

We will have to provoke their curiosity and reassure them.

So, are you ready to join us Adventurers ?"
